BEAK> forthcoming activity. + some limited U.S tapes available

BEAK> just got back from a brief yet highly enjoyable U.S tour. Those of you who managed to get to see shows @ the ATP New York festival / Manhattan / Los Angeles / San Francisco + the two record in-stores at Amoeba Records would have had the chance to pick up a limited edition tour cassette with 2 brand new BEAK> tracks. We have around 30 of these babies on sale exclusively from the INVADA webshop. Each tape has the tracks Deserters & The Russian on them. Each tape has been professionally printed and shrinkwrapped.
The tapes wont stick around for long and its doubtful they will be repressed.

If you want to catch BEAK> the band will be playing a few very select shows between now and the end of the year. Here are the dates..

Invada Records are proud to announce the release of the debut, self
titled album by Anika, released on 25th October.

Living between Berlin and Bristol whilst working as a political
journalist and music promoter, Anika met Bristol band Beak>.
Immediately it was clear that they shared the same musical vision; a
love of punk, dub and 60’s girl groups. The following week Anika and
Beak> went into the studio to begin recording ANIKA's debut album.
They recorded the album in 12 days. The album is a collection of
uneasy easy listening.

Anika spent the long summers of her childhood in Germany. Raised by
her music-loving rebel mother, by the time she was 16 she had bought
shares in Haldern music festival, met Patti Smith and already dreamt
of a life making music. Living on the outskirts of London as a
teenager only increased her appetite for discovering new music and
becoming a musician. Post college degree and looking for like-minded
musical souls in Bristol she met Beak>.

The result of this collaboration is a
political/trashy/discordent/reggae/German/old school Bristol/punk-funk
sound - all sown together with a collection of classic songs and a
sound of other worldliness.

"Lupus Pilum Mutat, Non Mentem" - The wolf may change its fur, but not its nature. This is the sentiment that runs throughout the new six (6) track album "I, Vigilante". It encompasses words of warning and tales of trouble from times past up to the present, songs of standing your ground and stories from our history, for it is only through history we truly exist.

"I, Vigilante" is something of a catch-up point for CBP as even though the last mammoth albums were only released last year, the songs on "The Resurrectionists" and "Night Raider" are in fact older, dating back to 2007. So to save frustrations and to keep the gears oiled, CBP have recorded five (5) new songs to release this summer. This is not the usual type of album in CBPs world, it performs a slightly different agenda, shorter and to-the-point, although the running time is still around the 45 minute mark. It makes more of a statement of where the band is in the live arena, with a noticeably raw and less produced approach.

This new recording includes the songs "Troublemaker", We Forgotten Who We Are", "Fantastic Justice" and the massive tribute to WWII veterans of the Battle Of The Bulge "Bastogne Blues". Also included is CBPs faithful tribute to the 1st Journey album (the FIRST one, i.e. before Steve Perry) in the form of the song "Of A Lifetime".

Massive friend of INVADA and all round 'sick bastard' Daniel Sparkes AKA Mudwig, recently designed the BEAK> 12" EP and Shirt. We still have very few of each in the store and once these are gone you wont see them again.
His work can be seen at selected exhibitions around the world.. Recent visits to L.A and Poland have made his work even more collectable and saught after by collectors of twisted art.

DAVID WRENCH / BLACK SHEEP - NEW RELEASE ON INVADA

SPADES & HOES & PLOWS is the third solo album by Welsh producer, pianist and songwriter David Wrench, and was commissioned for Julian Cope's Black Sheep by Cope and Fat Paul. The album presents four traditional folk themes from the British Isles, all performed in an eerily upfront and cadaverous manner, reminiscent of such late black metal as Furze, or perhaps a radical hybrid of Andrew King and an acoustic Khanate. But this is hardly a radical new course for Wrench, whose obsessions with cultural marginalia began as long ago as the late 80s with Nid Madagascar, his Welsh language acid house band. In 1997, Wrench released the turbulent BLOW WINDS BLOW, a dark set of songs influenced by Peter Hammill and John Cale. As the co-leader of the short-lived glam-sleaze duo Bubblegun, Wrench grabbed the ear of Julian Cope, whose particularly enjoyed the earnest electro-ballad ‘Beautiful Cunt’. David Wrench’s next solo album was THE ATOMIC WORLD OF TOMORROW, a horny melange of politically charged hi-energy synth pop. As an Engineer/Producer and Mixer, he has recently worked with Caribou, mixing most of the new album Swim, and previous album ANDORRA, engineering the Mercury prize nominated TWO SUNS by Bat For Lashes, WHEN THE HAAR ROLLS IN by James Yorkston, and producing the critically acclaimed albums GOODBYE FALKENBURG by Race Horses, GOTHIC ROAD by Jackie Leven, MIRACLE INN and BORE DA by Euros Childs, and THE QUICKENIG by Kathryn Williams. He recently was awarded the BBC Radio Cymru C2 award of Producer of the Year for the 3rd time. He joined Julian Cope’s group Black Sheep in 2008, performing vocals on their 2009 album KISS MY SWEET APOCALYPSE 2.

‘Gnod Drop Out with White Hills II’ is the first official collaboration between two of the most colossal cosmic manglers on the planet, that of astral rejecters Gnod (Manchester) and former Rocket, now Thrill Jockey’s spacerock juggernauts White Hills (New York).

Hot on the heels from their Not Not Fun sold out release, as well as countless self unleashed CDRs & various indie label alliances, Gnod have been stirring their galactic soup of flashbacked rituals with unpredictable incendiary results, both on record and as a live experience. Having them join forces with White Hills for this record is akin to having the aural equivalent of those 3D magic eye stereograms, looked at in one way, they just don’t make sense, but seen through the repetition of the music, the result is out of this world.

Since White Hills last outing with Rocket Recordings on the ‘Collisions’split with The Heads, the band have successfully released their debut album for the US label Thrill Jockey and now have notched up an impressive back catalogue of releases. Their fiery brand of heavy spacerock has seen them burning up live appearances over the years as they continue on the path towards uncharted territories.

To celebrate this thundering union, Rocket Recordings have embarked upon the release of a double vinyl LP expanding into four phases of pulsating mantras, awash with all the hypno
propulsion both bands motor skills can pilot.

It’s brimming with surrendered NEU like patterns, like both bands driving through ‘Dingerland’ with „LA Woman… blasting from the rushing air. We have 16 minute elegant ‘Bel Air’ suites, it’s ebbed & flowing mesmerizing grooves burst with swooping grandiose synths, like gentle waves, hanging in time. Interjections of oscillating guitars and keyboards, designed to propel the captured listener into a trance-inducing sunroof of kosmische blur, rupturing out through the expansive blue.

The 8 tracks contained over 4 sides are embedded with 4 long 10 minute plus pieces & these anchor the whole experience firmly into an exciting haze of echoing psychedelia, electronic & experimental Krautrock trippo-nova. After which, all four corners of your mind’s eye have been

Whilst preparing for the current BEAK> tour supporting Chris Cunningham, we unearthed a hand full of last years screen printed tour posters that were on-sale at the winter 2009 All Tomorrow's Parties festival and surrounding dates.

We have 8 here in the office that are hand numbered and signed by each of the band members..

CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX - STUDIO NEWS!!!!!

The Mighty CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX are back in State Of Art studio's in Bristol and are recording a new 45-50 min project to be released on Invada around the end of May. The band will also have copies available for their forthcoming trek around Europe... (full tour dates coming next week). The new project will be released on CD and Ltd edition Vinyl LP.
Next week Invada will be going down to the studio to hear some of the new material and grab some photos from the session.
The band have been working non-stop on the road and recently completed a very successful tour in the UK with alternative pioneers New Model Army. The band have also recorded a cover of Pink Floyd's 'run like hell' for a MOJO magazine covermount and this weekend are working on a AC/DC cover for Classic Rock Magazine. Be sure to check them both out.
The albums released last May - '200 Tons of Bad Luck' and the deluxe limited edition Box Set version 'The Resurrectionisrs / Night Raider' were universally recognized as two of last years oustanding UK releases. There are still a few VERY VERY limited boxes left from the Invada store. As well as the debut album 'A Love Of Shared Disasters'

FOR THOSE THAT HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH INVADA MAIL ORDER PLEASE READ :
It has come to our attention that the 3rd party company who process orders for us have not been corresponding data correctly to our email - nor to our suppliers.
We are hoping this problem should be resolved after a lengthy conversation today and we may have got to the bottom of the problem.
We have set up a mail order help contact which will be checked twice a week by someone directly inside the Invada office who will be able to 'iron out' any problems with the Big Cartel (our mail order shop).
If you have any problems PLEASE only contact invadastore@hotmail.com
DO NOT contact the invadarecords@live.co.uk email address, or the invada records myspace website. (any messages coming into these two sites will simply be deleted)
After lenthy discussions with our mail order contacts -
We would also like to raise two points.

1) Sending product by 'special' 'registered' or 'recorded delivery' will always guarantee your item and insure the item to replacement value. If you order and just pay regular 1st class, we cannot guarantee or replace items that go missing in the post - although we will do our best to try and help the situation.

2) Delivery times : Please allow upto 14 days for UK and 28 days for rest of world. Most days our mail order company go to the Post Office or use courier companies for dispatch - therefore items normally get sent out same day as order comes in. Please be patient and do not bombard us with emails unless the item doesnt come in the allocated time we are stating here.

Okay so its another year and exciting times here at Invada Records.
Firsty appologies for anyone thats emailed in over the xmas holiday and is waiting for a response. Swine Flu took over the office just at the end of the BEAK> tour and its only now that we're fully open and ready for business..

Regarding Mail order queries / complaints - we are currently working on a new system where there will be more control direct from Invada HQ rather than the current system which is basically controlled by a 3rd Party.
This should help 'iron-out' any problems / delays or mistakes on Invada merchandise & products. In a couple of days i will post up details of how the shop will change with a new designated email address to deal with any problems personally.

For those of you that ordered the BEAK> Box Set, we know the majority of boxes sent got to you okay. However we are aware there have been problems with the courier company we used to send them out.
If you have a problem the best and easiest way to deal with this is to send an email to invadashop@live.co.uk and list your name / address / paypal number and date you ordered. We should be able to track it all as the orders were sent out by a large courier company.

Invada Records are very proud to be releasing this album and even happier we get to release the 1st ever official BEAK> material direct from this website.

Invada Records will be releasing a special advance Limited box set version of the album. This Box will include the full length album cd album, presented in a dvd style case with a bonus CD /EP disc of 4 new tracks NOT featured on the album. As well as this there will be a 12" Vinyl EP with another 2 tracks also not featured on the album. So in total you will bet 6 tracks not available on the commercial release. As well as this there will be a BEAK> T shirt, and badge. Geoff Barrow (pictured yesterday with his lovely new hat) is very happy to announce in addition to the already strong line-up for his Colston Hall event, MOGWAI have just been announced to headline the main room.
Geoff and the rest of us here at Invada are absolutely ecstatic with this coup, and we hope that people will really make an effort to come to this huge show.

The line up is simply amazing and features Invada bands such as Gonga, Rosie Red Rash, Thought Forms, Fuzz Against Junk, Malakai + special one "one off" collaboration sets from Crippled Black Phoenix, Team Brick and Joe Volk performing with "The Emerald Orchestra".

Geoff has also invited Italian supreme avant jazz math rockers ZU, All Tomorrow Parties melodic drone merchants The Fuck Buttons, and Bristol Tropical Prog Funk band Zun Zun Egui

Thought Forms - Something About Bee's Cos They're Important CD

The band have kindly given the webshop an amount of the amazing HANDMADE tour cd that was on sale at the album launch party in Bristol and the East Coast U.S shows a month or so ago.

The music consists of 5 tracks - 2 brand new / 3 live.

This isn't some cheap dispensable CD project - the music was mastered at Optimum Mastering in Bristol in a 5 hr session and the packaging on each cd has been lovingly individually hand made by the band members themselves. Each CD is numbered and NO two cds look the same.

Label Boss, and Portishead member Geoff Barrow is to Curate a days worth of entertainment at Bristol's legendary venue the Colston Hall.

The Colston Hall is one of the most legendary entertainment venue's in Europe and has been around for 140 years. Since the 60's alone the venue has played host to The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix etc etc.

Recently the venue has extended and a new 30 million pound building has been built onto the existing structure. To celebrate the opening of this , Invada chief GB is too curate a day of music / film / art on Saturday 26th September.

So far Invada artists Crippled Black Phoenix / Team Brick / Joe Volk / Malakai and Thought Forms will play alongside some VERY special international guests who will be announced once contracts are signed. More info on Tickets and Full line-ups over the forthcoming week.

South West Psyche-Gazers Thought Forms have been confirmed today to play the best festival in the UK - SUPERSONIC. Go to the website to check out more info - We're so excited that Invada will be represented at this festival as some of our favourite bands are playing.. The mighty CORRUPTED play their UK debut, alongside Greg Anderson and Stephen O Malleys THORR'S HAMMER project , THE ACCUSED whom are simply legendary plus my favourite Power Violence band IRON LUNG. So many good bands.

At long last TEAM BRICK's debut album is finally here.
"ALOGON" is now available at the Invada shop for purchase.. The initial "limited" pressing includes a bonus DVD of TB supporting Julian Cope on tour a few years ago. If you haven't heard or seen this man play out or heard any of his music this is a good a place as any to check him out.
The man cant be compared to anybody or anything, but if you're a fan of the following artists... John Zorn, Merzbow, Mr Bungle, Secret Chiefs 3, Steve Reich, Dalek, Cardiacs etc etc you may wish to explore what he has to offer with this album.
Team Brick has recently been singing with Bristol Doom Grunger's "Gonga" as well as working with Geoff and Billy on the "Beak" project (forthcoming on Invada) ; Not to mention playing on the most recent Portishead "3rd" album.

Some of you may have heard / checked out BEAK on their MySpace Site. Anyway for those of you that haven't, trot along to www.myspace.com/beak2009 and listen to some studio sessions recently recorded at "State Of Art" in Bristol. BEAK are a trio (Billy - Matt - Geoff) that make a pretty decent racket with multiple instruments. Obviously its up to the listener to judge for themselves on how they sound. To my "trained ears" they sound like a bastard child of Neu, Joy Division, Silver Apples, Sunn 0))) and Harmonia.
Invada Records have decided to release a mail-order only limited edition (200 - numbered) package. This should be available in around a months time ; the package will have a 12" LP / 4 Track CD / T-Shirt + assorted other collectible bits n bobs. These boxes will be limited to one per person. We really don't wanna see these up on ebay for extortionate prices so we will closely monitor where these are being sent to. Keep checking back for further news about this but in the meantime go and get some BEAK into you..

On Friday, Invada Records representatives met with Mr Brick (pictured above) and went to Optimum in Bristol to have his debut album "Alogon" Mastered.
5 hours and ludicrous amounts of coffee & tea later, everyone was happy with the end product..
The album runs for just shy of 65 mins and features 5 tracks including the epic "Tuba Mirabilis" which plays for 26.39. The album is scheduled for a full release on May 25th. Look out forthcoming news about a Team Brick 4 night residency in Bristol to celebrate the album launch. Around summer time TB and label mates Thought Forms are to take to the road and take on the UK and Europe - any interested promoters should contact us at invadarecords@live.co.uk and we will forward on any information.

TALIBAM VS PEEESSEYE self titled collaboration. May release

Talibam (pictured) and Peeesseye (PSI) have teamed up to produce one hell of an album for Invada. Just shy of 50 mins, the guys have delivered an epic piece of music that simply cannot be described in any human language. The trademark free experimental jazz sounds are present throughout this piece - BUT do not let that fool you. Some extreme noise and haunting (almost black metal sounding) vocals make this project unique. There really is nothing like this available at the moment.. Released in May on both CD and Vinyl formats with the vinyl having a bonus track. Invada will be releasing their self titled debut album in May. Thought Forms hail from Melksham in the South West of England. They have built up an impressive following particularly in Bristol and Bath over the past few years as well as playing dates around the U.K and the U.S.
We are ecstatic to be finally releasing this record after seeing the trio live so many times. Musically TF have taken influence from past masters such as Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Loop etc but their sound encompasses influence from modern experimental noise bands like The Skaters, Double Leopards, Emeralds etc. It's no use merely listing a load of bands that have influence on TF though. Check out their MySpace and judge for yourself.

Gonga back in Studio for a few days...

Late last week, the Gonga boys went back into State Of Art Studio's to record some demo's. The object of the project was to simply re-group and see what came naturally... After 3 days and a few mini-disks worth of music the result was extremely positive. The new material we heard pushes boundaries a lot further then we were expecting. Obviously the down-tuned classic Gonga riffs were present; but there was also a lot of instrumental experimentation and almost a different energy. All kinds of comparisons were being banded around (mainly from me it has to be said), including early Soundgarden, Fantomas, The Melvins, maybe even a bit of Ulver.. Hopefully i can persuade the chaps to give us a few mins worth of music to put on here.. keep checking back over the next week or so...

A Night On The BEAK !!!!

Invada's first signings of the year are Bristol trio BEAK.

State Of Art Studio's on the "east-side" of Bristol have been busy recording BEAK for the past few weeks.

Some early demo's can be heard on their MySpace page (look to the right of this blog for a link).

One description "a fan" responded to us with was "think Neu & Silver Apples, with the harsh minimalism of Sunn 0))) & Khanate and throw in the vocal presence of Ian Curtis and a pissed-up tramp". We laughed heartily then actually thought about it ... and agreed.

BEAK are definitely a band that will create interest due to its members, but for now check out the demo's and keep coming back here for further information over the coming weeks.
